OBSCURA | Steffen Kummerer joins the ESP Artist Family

Guitarist and songwriter Steffen Kummerer, well known for his work as a member of progressive death metal band Obscura, black metal band Thulcandra, and currently a member of tribute act Death to All, has joined the ESP artist roster. Steffen is currently playing a custom shop E-II M-II Seven, a E-II Horizon FR-7 and a LTD A-430E LTD acoustic guitar.

“With ESP Guitars and their exceptional crafted guitars I developed and refined my personal sound from scratch. Some years ago I bought a wonderful white ESP Eclipse with a Floyd Rose system and was impressed by both, sound and manufacturing of the instrument. Within a close collaboration we are developing some interesting projects in the near future. Obscura’s new album, “Diluvium”, features the first recordings with the new sound – listen and enjoy.”

Technical death metal masters OBSCURA have completed their fifth full-length album entitled Diluvium. Diluvium was recorded with longtime producer V. Santura (Triptykon, Pestilence) at Woodshed Studios in Landshut, Germany. The album is set for a Summer 2018 release via Relapse Records.

OBSCURA is set to begin a busy 2018 touring schedule. From February 1-5, the band will perform at the annual 70000 Tons of Metal with labelmates Exhumed. Later that month, OBSCURA begins their massive European tour with Sepultura, Goatwhore and Fit For An Autopsy. The tour commences on February 23, runs through 26 cities and ends on March 24.

In April, the band heads to Japan for an exclusive headline tour (April 12-15). On April 30, OBSCURA celebrates their 15 year anniversary at Alte Kaserne Landshut in Germany. Additionally, the band has announced several festival appearances including Vienna Metal Meeting, Amsterdam Metal Meeting and Summer Breeze Open Air.

More tour dates and album info will be announced soon.

OBSCURA | Complete New Album; Reveal Album Title

Technical death metal masters OBSCURA have completed their fifth full-length album entitled Diluvium. Diluvium was recorded with longtime producer V. Santura (Triptykon, Pestilence) at Woodshed Studios in Landshut, Germany. The album is set for a Summer 2018 release via Relapse Records.

Some special contributors were involved with the making of Diluvium including Linus Klausenitzer’s father, Prof. Ulf Klausenitzer, who has worked previously as a violinist and conductor with renowned musicians Arvo Pärt, Karl-Heinz Stockhausen, Mikis Theodorakis, Daniel Barenboim, Christian Thielemann, Pierre Boulez and many more.

Additionally, Jonas Baumgartl, a founding member of OBSCURA, who was a key member of the band between 2002 and 2007 returned to take part in the Diluvium sessions on cello. Jonas recorded drums and cello on the band’s first and only demo Illegimitation, as well as their debut full-length Retribution.

Vocalist / guitarist Steffen Kummerer commented on the new album:

“Our new album ‘Diluvium’ finally marks the end of Obscura’s four album circle we started around ten years ago when we wrote ‘Cosmogenesis’, followed by ‘Omnivium’ and ‘Akroasis’ in recent years. With Rafael Trujillo, Linus Klausenitzer, Sebastian Lanser and myself participating as equal songwriting contributors, the record turned out diverse, progressive and colorful in every possible way. We can’t wait to share the final piece of this long running four-album-concept with you and look forward to the album release along with extensive touring throughout 2018.”

OBSCURA confirm Amsterdam Metalfest alongside Fleshgod Apocalypse, Charm the Fury, Hideous Divinity, For I am King and and OneGodLess.

OBSCURA | confirm AMSTERDAM METALFEST 2018TICKETS & INFORMATION

Fleshgod Apocalypse, Obscura, The Charm The Fury and more at Amsterdam Metalfest, on Saturday May 19 th at the Melkweg (Amsterdam). Lurking ominously behind the canaled facade of Amsterdam’s street view, is Amsterdam Metalfests’ haunting spell waiting to be cast. May 19 th marks the first edition in the biggest hall of Amsterdam’s much revered venue Melkweg, The Max, and features an array of metal as symphonic, technical, melodic and stoner-groove are all on tonight’s menu. This year, Amsterdam Metalfest has the support of Buma ROCKS! Doors open at 16:00, tickets cost €22,50 (excl. membership).

Headliner Fleshgod Apocalypse proves that ‘death metal’ and ‘symphony’ make a savage blend. This, combined with their onstage theatrical bravado, promises to be nothing less than a spectacular showdown. The German technical death metal quartet Obscura is the second to last act to play the podium and their latest well-praised Akróasis (Relapse Records, 2016) possesses a sound that borders the virtuose. The Charm The Fury will have the home advantage! After a year of riding the European lands, playing high-profile support shows, this melodic metalcore foursome from Amsterdam finally returns to their hometown.

The first half of this evening is filled with the brutal death metal of the Italian Hideous Divinity, the also-from-Amsterdam melodeath outfit For I Am King, and the icebreaking groovy-sludge-blues of Onegodless.

Obscura | 15 Years Anniversary Show - Ticket

Obscura

The worldwide leading Progressive-Death-Metal band Obscura has been founded in Landshut, Germany in 2002. Following national and international chart-breaking records, tours within Europe, the United States, Asia, Middle East and Central America and support by MTV / VH1, their new album “Akroasis” sets new standards in Death Metal. Obscura returns to Landshut, Germany, the place where everything begun, for one special evening to celebrate their 15 Year Anniversary. As part of the „Akroasis World Tour“, nothing but an excellent performance and stellar live show will be guaranteed.

Deserted Fear

Thuringia´s Deserted Fear are crafting their vision passionately and merciless since 2008. Their debut album “My Empire” (2012) blew up a lot of dust and they are on their way to become one of the most important forces in the European metal scene. Deserted Fear combine the sound of Swedish death metal with US old school death metal to create their very own, modern sound, without losing heaviness and authenticity.

Thulcandra

Thulcandra was founded back in 2003 by Steffen Kummerer (Obscura) and Juergen Zintz with the intention to write music in the vein of Dissection, Sacramentum, and Unanimated: music that celebrates old-school Swedish blackened death metal. Following three successful records through Austria’s Napalm Records, numerous tours within Europe and a strong following, Thulcandra pay homage to a style brought back to life with blazing intensity.

Sektor

Sektor is a rising Blackened Death Metal Band from Landshut, Germany. Since 2011, they are gaining rising attention with gigs supporting bands like Negator or Izegrim. In this context, the musical facets which reflect the roots of the individual members, form a sound with greatest possible sovereignty.
