Obscura | Album Update #2

Obscura Band Picture“We´re less than a month away from entering the studio to record the fourth Obscura album, the first one for Sebastian Lanser, Linus Klausenitzer and myself. Ever since the new line-up has been announced, each of us has gotten a lot of questions about how the new material will sound, especially wether it´s gonna be more straight-up death metal, more prog, or something else entirely… So here´s our answer: it´s all of the above!

Steffen and Linus have penned the majority of the material so far. There´re shorter, catchier tunes based on Steffen´s signature riffing and lots of blast beats, which we expect to work great during the upcoming live shows. But the arrangements, which we all worked on together, also made sure there´s more dynamics, more intricacies like polymetrics, different layers of guitars and some new approaches to soloing.

I on the other hand, made it my mission to contribute something that builds on and extends the sound of the band´s previous album : very complex, dark and (for lack of better words) “prog”. The result is the longest and compositionally most ambitious song in the history of the band – a 15 minute epic featuring (another first for the band) a string section and my signature fretless guitar work. We´re definitely excited to finally enter the studio and share the new music with all of you – stay tuned for more updates during the coming weeks!” – Tom Geldschläger

Obscura announce New Album

Obscura Band PictureGerman progressive metal masters Obscura will enter Dreamsound Studios this April to begin recording drums for their highly anticipated new album and first full-length in over four years. The band will work once again with long time producer V. Santura (Cosmogenesis, Omnivium). The album will see a late 2015 release via Relapse Records. Guitarist / vocalist Steffen Kummerer commented on the upcoming material:

“We are all pleased with the new material which pairs the songwriting, technicality and arrangements of our previous albums with the creative input of members Linus Klausenitzer, Tom “Fountainhead” Geldschläger and Sebastian Lanser, while keeping our trademark prog riffing across the fusion and death metal landscape that makes Obscura sound unique. This album sees Obscura move a step further.”

Obscura | album update, Photo & Video footage

Obscura BandObscura is working hard on the follow up to 2011’s “Omnivium”. The band is already in pre-production process and starts tracking demos for the new record. We are all pleased with the new material which pairs songwriting, technicality and arrangments of the last albums with creative input of Linus Klausenitzer, Tom “Fountainhead” Geldschläger and Sebastian Lanser, while keeping our trademark prog riffing across fusion and death metal that makes Obscura sound unique.

While working on Obscura’s fourth, yet untitled, record we just initiated an interactive project we need your help for. We are looking for all kinds of photos, videos, graphics, flyers and tour posters since the very beginning in 2002. If you have any footage you would like to share and be part of the band’s project, please get in touch via contact@realmofobscura.com.

Especially videos of our shows in Japan, South East Asia, Mexico, Europe and North America would be appreciated. If you made pictures with the band members after a concert or just made a few shots during a show, feel free to send an email to the band. Everyone contributing will be mentioned in the final credits.

Sincerely,

Steffen Kummerer
