Video for “When Stars Collide” online now! Fast cars and even faster guitars are what you get on OBSCURA‘s new music video off our upcoming studio album “A Valediction“.
The music video was once again produced by director Mirko Witzki and does not only offer the possibility to witness the outstanding talent of the musicians during the performance, but also some visual pleasure for car nerds.
Steffen Kummerer comments: “One of the highlights and contested compositions of “A Valediction” features Björn Strid of our label mates Soilwork. ‘When Stars Collide’ recombines an uplifting pace with a rather dark and bitter narrative that leads into a story for reflection. A sense of delight and feeling of relief covers all mournful misery.”
Unfortunately, we have to announce to postpone our European tour to September next year. Thanks to everyone involved, the shows got moved, not cancelled. We are eagerly looking forward to celebrating our brand new album “A Valediction” on stages across Europe and see you soon.

Take a look behind the scenes of the “Devoured Usurper” video shoot and join the OBSCURA members on their journey to Stress Studio Graz, where the video was recorded.
The virtuosos of OBSCURA strike again with a third single, taken from the upcoming album “A Valediction”, which is set to be released onNovember 19th through Nuclear Blast Records. This time they reveal the probably most brutal and darkest track from the album – “Devoured Usurper”.
Band leader Steffen Kummerer comments:
“Merciless, moldered and putrid alike – “Devoured Usurper” showcases a crude abrasive side to shake some bodies at live shows in the near future. With utterly brutality the song depaints an inevitable reckoning and underlines the death metal roots of Obscura.” And once again the band worked with Mirko Witzki on the video, who also produced “Solaris”, “A Valediction” and previous videos for Obscura. Steffen reveals: “We recorded the music video at famous Stress Studio in Graz, Austria, where also drums for the new album have been tracked. We preprare our live shows and assemble parts of our production in this unique environment before we embark on upcoming tours.”

OBSCURA wrote, recorded, and finalized “A Valediction” during the pandemic. The stipulations of working during this time allowed OBSCURA to work cross-country, tracking each respective part—drums, guitar, and bass—in national studios across The Netherlands, Austria, and Germany. Once the pieces were completed, the recordings were shipped off to award-winning producer Fredrik Nordström and Studio Fredman (In Flames, Architects) in Gothenburg, Sweden, where Kummerer and Münzner completed vocals and acoustic guitars using custom-built ENGL amps.
Nordström was also tapped to mix and master. The final result is a deeper, heavier, yet more rounded production. The band will head out for their European tour right after the release and tickets are on sale now.
