OBSCURA are offering two of their original RAN Guitars for public auction. These custom-built instruments, played extensively by frontman Steffen Kummerer, represent an essential part of the band’s history and creative evolution.
The 6-string guitar, crafted in 2003 by the Polish custom shop RAN Guitars, accompanied OBSCURA on countless live performances worldwide between 2003 and 2011. It was used during the recording of the Illegimitation demo in 2003 as well as the studio albums Retribution and Cosmogenesis. The instrument can also be seen in the band’s renowned “The Anticosmic Overload” music video.
This unique guitar features a neck-through mahogany body, a Schaller Floyd Rose tremolo, an EMG 81 pickup, and Ernie Ball strings. It is distinguished by a custom “Illegimitation” inlay on the fretboard and comes in a heavy-duty Jericho Gehäuse flight case, manufactured in Germany.
The 7-string model, built in 2010, was used to record the studio albums Omnivium and Akroasis and saw extensive use in live performances between 2010 and 2019. The guitar appears in various official videos and playthroughs, showcasing OBSCURA’s signature sound and aesthetic.
This instrument features a neck-through mahogany body, a Schaller Floyd Rose tremolo, and a set of EMG 81-7 and 85-7 pickups, paired with Ernie Ball strings. It includes a beautifully crafted OBSCURA logo inlay on the fretboard and comes with a matching Jericho Gehäuse heavy-duty flight case.
Only three guitars of this distinctive OBSCURA design were ever produced by RAN Guitars worldwide: a 6-string from 2003, a 7-string from 2010, and another 7-string from 2011. While the 2011 model was stolen in 2021, the 2003 and 2010 instruments are now available for auction.
The auction is open to both international and national bidders. Shipping costs will be added based on the location of the winning bidder. This represents a rare opportunity to acquire two original, stage- and studio-used instruments from the formative years of OBSCURA — authentic pieces of the band’s musical history.
